An Empire State of Mind

Just a few weeks ago the world was on their toes every Wednesday night waiting for what was going to happen on the season finale of Empire. I must admit I was right along with them.  This show has captured  the attention of everyone. Including my husband! Now men, you say you don't watch soap operas but did you know that shows like Empire and Scandal are weekly soaps that just happen to air once a week and at night when most of you are at home anyway watching T.V. with your ladies. So, like it or not, you are watching a soap opera! ( Just had to throw that in there, lol)  People were on edge with Oohs, Ahhs and no she didn'ts!( I know that is improper English.) Cookie remained loyal to Lucius even though at the end it didn't seem that way and the whole empire is in the hands of the forgiving son who does not know he is being set up by his own family.  With all this drama going on I came to the conclusion......we all have empires....yes we do! Our empires are the lives that we live. We have a choice in the way that we choose to live our lives.  From the time that we are allowed to make our own decisions until the time that we expire.

Our empires range from the type of lifestyle that we choose. Do we choose to be married or single, gay or straight, pursue a college degree or not, etc.  Are we really happy with the empire that we have built? Is the empire that we have created fulfilling or full of strife. Who is benefitting from our empire? Or are we just existing......A lot of are just existing...carrying on each and everyday with the norms of life not looking at a brand new day as a fresh opportunity to finish those forgotten dreams, to pick up where we once left off. I am guilty of that as many of us all are. It is sad to say that is the reason successors in the world are few.

Individuals have lost sight of their empire. You may ask, "How do I know where my empire stems from?" Your empire is the fruit of your God given talent. Just like the show, Empire is based from the family's musical talent. Your empire could be singing, writing, dancing, talking, cooking, etc. Whatever you are great at, that is your empire. While the world watched Cookie and Lucius try to protect their empire. What are we doing with ours? I encourage anyone who is reading this to ask yourself, "What type of empire am I sitting on and not sharing with the world?  The God that we serve is a talented God full of love, compassion, and creativity. It is never too late to pick back up where you left off?  I often say when my time is up I want to leave empty. I want to fulfill every little detail that God officially assigned me to do before I leave this earth. I want to build the empire that he created for my life. One key thing in order to have a successful empire that can't be shaken, is that the foundation has got to laid by God. There is no other way you can be truly successful without Him being apart of the equation.

I saw a post on facebook the other day asking Empire viewers what would they be watching on Wednesday nights now while waiting on the next season's premiere... I just laughed at that when I saw it but you know what you could be doing....working on building your own empire. When next season airs if you are too busy with own empire at that time.....DVR it...use technology its here for a reason. I just don't want you or me to miss our own empires watching someone else's.
